The Director of the Kosovo Local Government Institute, Besnik Tahiri, continues to make his professional contribution in the field of local self-government, not only in the Republic of Kosovo but also abroad.
Tahiri, who has been in Jordan for three weeks, has taken part in activities that culminated in his professional contributions taking concrete form, reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Jordanian Government/Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), for which he works.
“I feel very good that, after field research work and engagement, most of the findings and recommendations in the concept paper I had presented to the Jordanian Government and NDI became an integral part of this MoU,” Tahiri stressed
“This honours me and gives me the courage to pursue my path and engagement resolutely in the field of developing local governance and a decentralised system of public management”,
Also this week, in the Parliament of Jordan, Tahiri presented his experience in local self-government in three separate sessions before the three largest parliamentary groups: the Islamic Centre Bloc, the Mubadarah Bloc and the Jordanian National Union.
“In the meetings with these three parliamentary groups, which have over 50 members of parliament, I presented the concepts of and approach to a decentralised system of governance. In these meetings I was faced with many questions, and at the same time I noticed that this country’s institutional energy is focused on making reforms that serve the country, but what also struck me was the members’ hesitation and apprehension about decentralisation”, said Tahiri
