The 2025 local elections will be held with changes in the structure of Municipal Assemblies, as a result of changes in the population of municipalities. 📊👥

The number of members of Municipal Assemblies🏛️ is set by the Law on Local Self-Government. Article 36, paragraph 1, provides that the number of members of a municipality’s Municipal Assembly shall be proportional to the number of citizens in the municipality. ⚖️

Based on the population census📑and the rules of the Law on Local Self-Government, Municipal Assemblies will see the following changes:

🔻 A total of 15 municipalities will see a decrease in the number of members: South Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Skenderaj, Suhareka, Rahovec, Malisheva, Drenas, Deçan, Kamenica, Dragash, Kaçanik, Leposaviq, North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok and Zveçan.

🔺 2 municipalities will see an increase in the number of Municipal Assembly members, namely Fushë Kosova and Shtërpca.

🚫 Meanwhile, there will be no changes in 21 municipalities: Prishtina, Ferizaj, Prizren, Gjilan, Peja, Gjakova, Podujeva, Lipjan, Viti, Klina, Istog, Shtime, Obiliq, Graçanica, Ranillug, Partesh, Kllokot, Mamusha, Novobërda, Hani i Elezit and Junik.

📊 Based on this analysis, therefore, most municipalities (21 out of 38 in total) have no changes in the number of Municipal Assembly members. A considerable number, 15 municipalities, will experience a decrease in the number of members, while only 2 municipalities will see an increase.

🔢 Looking at the total number of assembly members, across all municipalities there will be 60 fewer members in Municipal Assemblies.
