This meeting discussed the coordination of the work of the forum’s organisations and the drafting of a joint agenda on local governance.
During the workshop, participants in two working groups discussed and addressed civil society’s position on topics such as: internal governance/local administration; good governance; municipal performance; finance and local economic development; inter-governmental sectoral issues (specific grants); municipal sectoral issues; social issues and recurring problems (layered, systemic).
It is extremely important to strengthen cooperation between civil society and local institutions by setting strategic goals and a joint agenda for action, in order to strengthen democracy at local level.
Following this workshop, a civil society position paper will be drafted for the new municipal bodies that will emerge after the 2021 local elections. The document will analyse the current state of the areas of local governance and the forum’s proposals on the process and the steps the new municipal bodies should take to resolve the problems identified. Above all, the document will help civil society organisations to address the topics that need to be dealt with and the priorities that need to be set.
The Consultative Forum on Local Governance is a joint consultative mechanism established by the Ministry of Local Government (MLG) and several civil society organisations whose work focuses on local governance in Kosovo. The forum was established to discuss developments, topics, projects and ideas on local governance in Kosovo, with the aim of joint promotion, contribution and advocacy for the further development of local self-government.
This activity was carried out within the project ‘Dialogue for European Municipalities (DEM)’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
