The heads of the Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI) and the London-based Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) today visited the Ministry of Local Self-Government of the Republic of Macedonia, where they were received by the Minister, Ms Shiret Elezi.

The Kosovo Local Government Institute was represented by Mr Besnik Tahiri, Executive Director of the Institute. LGiU was represented at the meeting by Mr Jonathan Carr-West, Executive Director of the Institute, and Mr Andy Johnston, Head of Operations.

During the meeting, the LGiU representatives had the opportunity to present their work, their “think tank” institute and its role in providing support in the field of local governance.

Furthermore, the meeting concluded that problems almost always start at local level and that it is important to cooperate with politicians and representatives who come from this level. Cooperation with the KLGI Institute would therefore be a means of contributing to local governance in the region.

At the meeting, the representatives had the opportunity to learn about the successes and challenges the Republic of Macedonia faces in this field, and this served as a good opportunity for better cooperation on both sides to improve governance and strengthen the local level.
