The Kosovo Local Government Institute has begun basic training with local non-governmental organisations in order to provide knowledge of the basic concept of civic engagement in local governance. Civic engagement covers almost all actions relating to public matters in decisions that affect citizens' lives.
The Executive Director of the KLGI Institute, Besnik Muçaj, emphasised the role of civil society in decision-making with a view to creating or improving public policies, procedures and local practices in favour of citizens' well-being.
Advanced strategies for public participation promote accountability, increase trust and strengthen decision-makers' commitment to improving governance.
Citizen participation aims at the alignment and coordination of actions between institutions, civil society, the private sector and the public in general. The purpose of citizen participation is to promote transparency, encourage open government and create citizen ownership of public policies.
The training will continue in the coming days and weeks, focusing on strengthening the capacities of organisations and encouraging the building of joint agendas between civil society and the local level. This activity stems from the need for contributions from organisations working in specific fields for civil society at the local level.
