A discussion and exchange meeting with civil society actors on key governance topics, with an emphasis on those at local level, was held at the premises of the Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI). The aim of the meeting was to exchange ideas and experience through discussion, and also to increase cooperation and coordination in addressing, supporting and advocating for sustainable policies and other topics of common interest.
At the meeting, the KLGI Institute presented in broad terms the challenges and dynamics facing the local level, arising from discussions and focused work with municipalities. A particular focus of the discussion was the financing of services, which is seen as a prerequisite for sustainable, development-oriented financing. The main conclusion was that there is no efficient system without fundamental reform; partial reform fragments the problem.
This was a first step; in subsequent meetings it will serve as a platform for coordination and interaction to encourage institutions to improve trends and accelerate integration processes. Given that each organisation has its own areas of focus, this discussion meeting will also serve as an opportunity to find paths that offer solutions to problems.
Beyond discussion, the meeting was a reflection and a way of increasing synergies towards joint engagement. This initiative is expected to become a forum for ongoing discussion of issues of interest to organisations and a contribution to institutions.
