As part of the meetings during the study visit to North Macedonia, the delegation led by the Executive Director of the KLGI Institute, Mr Valmir Gashi, was received by the Minister of Local Self-Government, Mr Risto Penov.
In his remarks, Mr Risto Penov presented the Ministry’s work on advancing policies and programmes related to local governance in North Macedonia. The focus was on the role of municipalities in integration processes, as well as strategic and development capacities, including generating potential from pre-accession funds.
For his part, Mr Valmir Gashi, on behalf of the members, expressed appreciation for the meeting and the experience shared by Minister Petrov and his associates. He gave an overview of the achievements, challenges and prospects of local governance, as well as the role and professional contribution of the KLGI Institute.
Among other things, readiness was expressed for the KLGI Institute to act as a facilitator in exchanging and adapting good practices, as an opportunity and an advantage in shortening the path of the European integration processes for both countries.
An open and substantive discussion took place at the meeting between the programme members and representatives of the Ministry of Local Self-Government of North Macedonia.
The activity was carried out as part of the programme ‘Dialogue for European Municipalities’ (DEM), supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
