Within the “Property Rights Initiative” (PRI) project, the Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI), as co-implementer with the Advocacy Training and Resource Center (ATRC), has completed 3,099 surveys as part of the “Door-to-Door Campaign” activity.

The aim of this activity was to assess the level of awareness of property registration and to communicate with citizens about the mechanisms available to resolve and facilitate potential property issues. KLGI carried out the “Door-to-Door” campaign in 14 municipalities: Peja, Prizren, Suhareka, Mamusha, Gjilan, Kamenica, Viti, Novobërda, Ferizaj, Shtime, Shtërpca, Lipjan, Graçanica and Dragash.

As part of the campaign, some of the respondents identified through the surveys carried out by KLGI volunteers will receive free legal aid. This aid will be provided within the PRI project and delivered by ATRC and its legal partners, who will provide support to 1,500 surveyed families.

The survey results in the chart below show that 48.3% of respondents have legalised their property, while 41.5% have not done so and 10.2% are not aware of the status of their property. As regards applying for legalisation, an overwhelming majority of 89.2% have not applied, while only 10% have taken this step. As regards information on the procedures for legalising or registering property, 49.6% of respondents are informed, but a large share of 45.5% are not aware, and 4.8% expressed uncertainty on this issue. These data reflect evident challenges in legalisation processes and a considerable lack of information among citizens.

Register and legalise your immovable property! Secure your family’s future by formalising ownership through registration and legalisation. Benefit from the legal protection that property registration offers and become part of our campaign to raise awareness of and access to property rights.

The PRI project is implemented by ATRC, co-implemented by KLGI and funded by the World Bank/State and Peacebuilding Fund.
