The Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI) organised a workshop on the topic “Challenges faced by women at the local level”.

The workshop discussed and addressed the problems and challenges that women face at local level. Equal representation in decision-making remains a challenge for the local level, where women are unable to be part of policy-making.

It was stressed that, as a condition for fair, sustainable and economically developed governance, gender equality must take its rightful place until stability is achieved for genuine good governance.

Women should therefore have their place among the priority policies of the municipal executive. Above all, specific policies should be developed at local level to subsidise women’s own business initiatives and to support them in the labour market in general. At the same time, increasing the number of women who serve as role models in public positions also helps to change public opinion about women’s ability to take part in decision-making.

The KLGI Institute remains dedicated to analyses and studies that contribute to effective local governance practices in Kosovo.

This activity was carried out within the project ‘Dialogue for European Municipalities (DEM)’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
