The Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI), in support of the Ministry of Regional Development (MRD), organised a virtual meeting on “Analysis of Capital Investments Implemented by Development Region in 2019”. Owing to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was held online.

The workshop aimed to review and discuss the capital investments implemented by line ministries in Kosovo's five development regions during 2019. Participants in this meeting were the Directors of the Directorates for Economic Development from Kosovo's municipalities.

During the discussion it was stressed that good planning of capital investments by municipalities is essential for effective management of the municipal budget. Therefore, for the best possible planning of capital investments, it is important to take into account analyses and assessments of investments made in previous years, the existing needs of the community, a balanced distribution of central investments among local ones, and the fulfilment of previously set priorities.

The analysis drafted by the MRD examines the distribution of line ministries' capital investments during 2019 in relation to the five development regions: Centre, East, North, West and South. Above all, it presents the differences between regions and municipalities in terms of the support received for implementing capital projects during one year.

Following the drafting of the first draft of the document, this is the first stakeholder consultation meeting. KLGI and the MRD will organise a series of meetings in order to obtain input from the municipalities, line ministries and Regional Development Agencies.

This activity was carried out within the project ‘Support for Stronger and More Sustainable Municipalities (SSSM)’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
