The Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI), continuing its support for the Ministry of Regional Development (MRD), organised a further workshop with the Working Group for drafting the Strategy for Regional Development 2020-2030.
At this meeting of the Working Group, the findings and the drafting of indicators for the objectives were discussed, while also analysing the objectives and the calculation of baseline values.
This strategy sets out the long-term goals and priorities for regional development and, at the same time, enables the coordination of policies that contribute to the balanced development of the regions. Above all, it serves as a guide for local economic development by taking initiatives and implementing joint development projects. It also plays an important role in achieving the goals and priorities for regional development through sectoral policies and strategies that contribute to the balanced development of the regions.
The aims of the strategy should, however, focus on strengthening economic regions and preventing the marginalisation of problem areas, while setting criteria for the effective implementation of, and partnership in, development activities in the socio-economic regions. This should thereby ensure sustainable economic growth through the effective use of local and regional potential, with the aim of improving citizens' living standards.
This strategy will be completed after lengthy study and the joint efforts of all stakeholders, fulfilling its objectives in the service of sustainable regional economic development.
The KLGI Institute, through its programmes, will continue to support institutions in drafting policies and legislation affecting the field of local governance in the Republic of Kosovo.
This activity was carried out within the project ‘Support for Stronger and More Sustainable Municipalities’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
