KLGI and the MRD presented and discussed their joint agenda of activities focusing on balanced regional development

Balanced regional development cannot be achieved without building the capacities of the regions so that there is genuine inter-regional competition. In this respect, measures need to be taken to raise inter-regional competitiveness in order to achieve higher levels of productivity, employment and prosperity.

With this focus, the Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI), together with the Ministry of Regional Development (MRD), organised a workshop to present and discuss the joint agenda in support of balanced regional development.

The workshop was held to present programmes, policies and activities in the field of regional development, as well as joint opportunities for cooperation.

The actions taken define the areas of regional development and the needs for investment and their coordination; they also define the work and functioning of the mechanisms that will deal with the planning and implementation of programmes.

KLGI’s aim is to serve as a platform for more structured communication in order to increase municipalities’ ownership of the policies made at central level. This discussion was part of the professional support the KLGI Institute is providing to institutions in capacity building and the drafting of policies and legislation in the field of local governance.

This activity was carried out within the project ‘Support for Stronger and Sustainable Municipalities (SSSM)’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
