Through discussions, training sessions and group work, a three-day modular training (2–4 July) was held for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the local level on the process of monitoring public funding of NGOs at the local level and the process of monitoring public consultation in municipalities.

On the first day, the training focused on: the role and engagement of NGOs in municipalities; the principles of good governance and direct democracy; and the legal basis and functioning structure of municipalities. Over the other two days, the participants were divided into two groups: one group verified the data collected from monitoring the public funding of NGOs at the local level for 2023, while the other group held advanced training on the methodology for monitoring public consultation in municipalities.

Public funding of local NGOs and public consultation are key processes for successful and sustainable local governance. To meet local development goals and increase citizen participation, it is important that local governments engage effectively with NGOs and the community at large.

This training was organised within the Civic Engagement Programme, a five-year initiative implemented by the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation (KCSF) in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). KLGI is KCSF’s partner in carrying out this activity.
