The Ambassador of Norway to Kosovo, Per Strand Sjaastad, as part of his visits to municipalities with Mr Besnik Tahiri, Executive Director of KLGI, visited Junik to see the challenges facing this municipality, which was established through the decentralisation process.
According to Ambassador Sjaastad, it is vital that Junik deepens cooperation with the surrounding municipalities. “I am here to gather information that I will pass on to Oslo regarding projects that could support the municipality,” the Norwegian Ambassador said.
He made these comments at a meeting with the mayor of the Municipality of Junik, Agron Kuçi, reiterating the need to advance tourism in the Dukagjin Region.
Mayor Kuçi himself said that Junik offers great opportunities for this sector. “Over 65 per cent of Junik’s territory is mountains and highland pastures, and it has the highest peak, Gjeravica,” Kuçi said.
At this meeting, the Norwegian Ambassador was accompanied by the Executive Director of the Kosovo Local Government Institute, Besnik Tahiri. During the visit, they were also briefed on the town’s reconstruction, given that over 90 per cent of Junik was destroyed during the war.
They also visited the regional tourism centre to see the conditions and opportunities this centre offers.
