The Norwegian Ambassador, Per Strand Sjaastad, under the coordination of Mr Besnik Tahiri, Executive Director of the KLGI Institute, continued with a visit to the Municipality of Gjakova, where they met the Chair of the Municipal Assembly and representatives of the municipality.

Ambassador Sjaastad showed interest in the opportunities the Municipality of Gjakova offers foreign investors, while discussing the municipality’s challenges with local representatives.

A particular focus of the meeting was the Municipality of Gjakova’s approach to taking out development loans for the economic development of the municipality. On this occasion, Mr Luan Gola, Chair of the Municipal Assembly, presented the economic projects under way in the municipality, which are mainly supported by international actors, as well as the importance of foreign investment in Gjakova.

“The economic zone is very important for the Municipality of Gjakova; the northern part has been privatised, but the southern part is under the management of the Privatisation Agency of Kosovo, so the municipality is trying to give it to the right investor,” Gola said, adding that industrial development remains important for the people of Gjakova.

According to Mr Besnik Tahiri, the key problem for municipalities, including Gjakova, remains funding for sustainable development.

They also visited Gjakova’s old bazaar, to get to know the town and what the municipality has to offer.
