The Kosovo Local Government Institute (KLGI), within the framework of its platform and network for young professionals, organised another discussion on ‘Transformational Leadership’. The topic of the discussion was ‘The principles of transformational leadership and the role of women in this process’, with presentations by Egzon Krasniqi, PhD candidate at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, and Blerina Ukshini, project coordinator at the D4D Institute.

This component aims to broaden the involvement of young professionals in local governance, with the goal of strengthening policies and advancing processes at grassroots level. The platform and network focus on encouraging young professionals to engage and on increasing ownership of vital issues of public interest. For these actors, the KLGI Institute will publish a practical guide on ‘transformational leadership at local level’.

Transformational leadership does not mean a change of generation; it is about changing mindsets and approaches in local governance. The basic concept is applicable and merges easily with the current regulatory contours of the local level. Transformational leadership will push local actors towards interaction, greater synergies and the advancement of innovative practices.

It is essential that the local level advances the intended model; to this end, beyond institutional actors, synergy is also required from other social and public actors in order to fundamentally strengthen the European spirit of local governance.

This activity was carried out within the project ‘Support for Stronger and Sustainable Municipalities (SSSM)’, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
