Within the framework of the programme “An effort towards sustainable and functional local governance”, the Kosovo Local Government Institute is holding two working sessions on “Strengthening the role of civil society and the media at the local level” at the premises of the KLGI Institute.
The training sessions focus on the media and civil society, since media reporting and the activation of civil society are seen as an essential precondition for good governance. Therefore, strengthening local media and two-way communication with municipalities should be seen as one of the main preconditions for good governance.
The two-day training covers the regions of Prishtina, Gjilan and Mitrovica, and as such addresses topics that essentially highlight the need for intervention and improvement of the situation in local governance on the ground.
The training also aims to present the work and results of local governance, as well as the power of the internet, YouTube channels, news portals and social networks, which can often be seen as opportunities left untapped by municipalities and their information offices.
This also relates to the fact that citizens, the media and civil society must play their role by holding local actors accountable for fulfilling their promises and the vision they have set out.
